Francisco and I met at La Becque artist residency, one summer afternoon in 2021, or so I think. We both showed up with our eurorack modular systems, recorded a bunch of raw material, then carved it into short compositions. 15’51 » across 9 tracks. Tape or CD felt wrong, so we went looking for something else. We ended up ordering 35 MP3 circuit board players: one push button, one sound chip, one tiny speaker, one battery, one 8 MB memory. The files were stereo so Francisco had to adapt the mastering to mono and drastically reduce bitrate, compression and frequency range to fit those cheap-ass little devices. But it somehow sounds amazing.
